Volunteer opportunities exist at MAHS throughout the entire school year in the areas of tutoring and various miscellaneous tasks that require assistance such as repair, renovations, office help, and chaperoning. We have been fortunate to have the most wonderful relationship with the good people at Volunteer Memphis, Inc. and Hands On Memphis, Inc. These organizations have provide many volunteer opportunities to hundreds of people throughout greater Memphis on behalf of Memphis Academy of Health Sciences. Volunteer Memphis, established in 1975, is an essential partner in improving the quality of life in the Mid-South through recruiting and referring volunteers, supporting non-profit organizations to help them utilize volunteers to their fullest, and connecting people to information and resources that lead to more effective community service delivery. Volunteer Memphis also participates in strategic initiatives that mobilize volunteers to meet local community needs. In 2006, Volunteer Memphis merged with Hands on Memphis to create a blended, more comprehensive "all things volunteer" organization. About Hands On Memphis Founded in 1993 by Phillip McCaull and a group of young, concerned citizens, Hands On Memphis (HOM) has for the past decade remained committed to offering flexible, meaningful, and educational managed volunteer opportunities for Memphis community members. While our offerings have grown, our focus has remained the same. Hands on Memphis creates, manages, and leads hands-on projects that positively impact the lives of people in need in our community. HOM works with dozens of local non-profit agencies, community groups and neighborhood associations. Whether large or small, HOM provides our partner agencies with managed, planned monthly programs led and filled by committed and trained volunteers. We offer an average of 20-30 projects a month that take place after work hours, on the weekends, or during the lunch hour. This allows busy, working individuals the opportunity to find their niche in the volunteer community. The flexibility of the program allows volunteers to "sample" the work of many different Memphis agencies addressing a variety of issues from pre-school literacy to environmental clean ups to hunger and homelessness.
